We all know that if you want to have a baby, it is important to plan for your pregnancy. Whether it’s your first, second, third, or fourth child, it is imperative that you are in the best shape of your life for you and your baby’s sake. The steps you take during your pregnancy will impact your child for the rest of his or her life. Before considering conception, it is important to consult your doctor so they can give you the proper nutritional and healthcare advice. Dr Sarah Brewer, author of Planning a Baby? A Complete Guide to Preconceptual Care informs us that the most important time during a baby’s development was during the first four weeks after conception. However, it is important that you start preparing yourself at least three months in advance by taking prenatal vitamins and getting in great shape because if your healthy and in good shape, then your baby will be too. Aside from being in the best shape possible, there are other important things you should know before becoming pregnant. For example, if you are taking any form of birth control, such as the pill, it is recommended to start trying to conceive right after you stop using it because within those first few months, you may be most fertile. It is also at your best interest to become familiar with your new menstrual cycle so you know when you are most fertile each month. Another important FACT that all women should be aware of is that smoking should be stopped long before trying to conceive. If you do smoke, and or use alcohol, it is strongly advised to cut down right away so you can kick the habit before becoming pregnant. Because the baby will be nourished in the body, it is most important that mothers take these steps seriously. However, there are also a few steps fathers can take as well. For example, tight pants can lower his sperm count by 20%, so it is important that he wear loose pants and boxers that are made from cotton. Also a diet full of antioxidant vitamins C and E are essential for healthy sperm development and that he lower alcohol intake as well. In addition to being in great physical shape, these will help ensure that he and his sperm are ready to create a child. It is important that both mother and father take the right steps before trying to conceive so that you and your child will be healthy and happy, not only during the months of your pregnancy, but also during the years after your baby is born.
