It is a well known fact that pregnancy can be overwhelming for a woman, but do we ever think about pregnancy through a father's eyes? Although men can't give birth to a child, they too are sharing the joys of having a baby. It is important that mother's realize this, and give dad's all they support they need, just as he would give you all the support you deserve.
Also, to all you dads out there, remember that the mother of your child is going through a tough time. She has made many lifestyle changes before conception and has made even more since becoming pregnant. It is important, especially during the months of her pregnancy to be sensitive and understanding. Also, there are many ways you can show her support so that neither you nor she feels alone.
One way to show support is to workout with the mom-to-be. Show her that you care about your family’s health and want to share these months with her. Also, help her control her diet by controlling yours. Don't "Pig Out" while she has to eat healthy for the baby’s sake. If she has to create a healthy diet while carrying your child, maybe you could do the same. Also, try to cut out the alcohol when you’re around her so she doesn't feel like she is missing out on her old lifestyle. With these in mind, you could be the best father and the best husband at the same time.
With that said, it is important to remember that the mother of your child is not the only one struggling through these nine months. She knows that you too are dealing with your own worries and struggles. You may be feeling alone or left out because she may be getting more attention from others. You may also be feeling excited and scared at the same time because you want to welcome your newborn into the world but don’t quite know what to expect. Also, you are aware that finances will change and money will be tight and don’t know how that or a new baby will affect your marriage. But don’t worry! You are not alone, and chances are, your significant other is thinking about the same things. You are an important part of the pregnancy and by working together, both you and the mother of your child can overcome all the obstacles and everything will be fine.
For those of you who are about to be a father, Happy Father's day. And to those of you, who are already a father, keep up the good work and know that your child and their mother are very proud of you.
